On the 6th November the Rainbow Surgery held a Public Consultation Meeting to discuss the proposed merger with The Fenland Group Practices, which consists of Doddington, Wimblington and Manea Surgeries.
We, as a surgery, feel this could be a positive move and would make us more resilient in a time when GP’s are not committing to joining practices on a long term basis. Very few GP’s are willing to become partners and with existing GP Partners reaching retirement age there are big gaps which smaller practices are unable to fill.
In May 2019 the lease on Rainbow Surgery is due for renewal. We have been unable to recruit any new Doctors and as Drs Arun and Rita are hoping to retire at some point the surgery would be extremely vulnerable to closure. We have had discussions with other practices in the locality but they felt unable to commit to joining with us. Fenland Group practices are happy to renew the lease as a group of practices, therefore making the future of Rainbow surgery much more secure. Doddington Surgery is a training practice and therefore in the next two years will have newly trained GP’s willing and able to work from Rainbow surgery.
