Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic all doctors appointments will be via telephone initially, the doctor will then arrange a time to see you in person if this is required. Video consultations are also available where appropriate. If you wish to discuss a skin condition then please have a photograph ready prior to booking your phone appointment. This will be taken from you via text message on the day of your appointment. Please do not send photographs to the surgery e-mail address unless this is specifically requested by the doctor. 

Appointments with our Nurses and HCA's can be booked by phoning the surgery. 

Chaperones

We are committed to providing a safe, comfortable environment where patients and staff can be confident that best practice is being followed and everyone's safety is of utmost importance.

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone if they so wish for any consultation or examination where they feel one is required. Should this be required please ask at reception or mention it to your GP or other health care professional at the time of your appointment. Your health care professional may require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations or examinations in accordance with best practice.

You can expect to be asked the nature of the problem by the Reception staff so as this information can be passed to the clinician or they can help direct you to the most appropriate clinician or service.

If you arrive later than your booked appointment time you may not be able to be seen.

If you cannot keep your appointment, please ring us as soon as possible so we can offer it to someone else.

 

Extended Hours Access

From 1st October 2018 a range of routine pre-bookable appointments will be available in addition to FGP standard opening hours. If you wish to book one of these please be aware that the sessions will be held at different Surgeries throughout Cambridge and you will need to be able to travel there.

You can make an appointment at any of the sites - not just the one nearest to your home. Please note the staff you will be seen by Extended Access appointments are not FGP staff.

Practice Nurse

Nurses based at our practice treat patients for a wide range of common conditions (e.g. minor injuries/illnesses, removing stitches, travel vaccinations, immunisations and so on). Our practice nurses are also specially trained to run routine clinics for certain conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease. (Each of our nurses specialises in a different area, so you need to book ahead with the most appropriate person). Our reception staff will be able to advise whether a nurse appointment is appropriate.

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistants carry out, blood testing, INR blood monitoring, hearing tests, blood pressure checks, weight checks, ECGs and sleep apnoea monitoring, spirometry, B12 injections and chaperoning.

ANNUAL WELLBEING REVIEWS

You will now be invited for your yearly annual wellbeing reviews in your month of birth. The review will be different for each patient depending on what pre-existing conditions are present and it may require more than one appointment. 

These conditions are as follows:

BP + Pulse:    Hypertension, Atrial Fibrillation
Cardiovascular:Coronary Heart Disease, Chronic Heart Failure, Peripheral Arterial Disease, Stroke
Diabetes:Diabetes.  Pre-Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes
Renal:Chronic Kidney Failure
Mental Health:Bipolar, Dementia, Learning Disability, Psychosis
Respiratory:Asthma (if bronchodilator issued in last year), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Other:Rheumatoid Arthritis, Coeliac Disease, Severe Frailty, Post-Bariatric Surgery

In the future we will no longer be sending letters.

 

We may need to do blood tests at this appointment.

 

It is important to attend your review appointment so we can ensure your condition is properly controlled and managed. If you run out of your repeat medication and have not had a review, we will not be able to re-authorise your repeat medication.

Nursing Care At Home

Patients who are confined to their homes and need nursing assistance may arrange with the doctor for a community nurse to call. They will be able to help assess your needs and give information and support. Practical nursing care may include injections, blood tests, dressings and help for patients with incontinence.

For all urgent appointment, we ask that you undertake a symptom assessment through DoctorLink

The symptom checker will ask you a number of questions to help to identify your problem.

The outcome of your assessment will direct you to the right treatment, whether emergency care, your GP, nurse or self care.

If your outcome indicates that an appointment is required, you simply click on the request appointment link.

Once the request has been submitted, you will then be contacted by the Practice Team, to arrange an appointment within the identified timeframe (as outlined in the outcome of your symptom checker).

 The information you provide will be shared with our clinical team (where appropriate) and will assist in providing robust information of your problem to the required clinical team member prior to your appointment.
